Manage custom reports

Add, edit, or remove custom data to your analytics within the ValidMind Platform.

Visualization configuration options

  • A visualization is a custom reporting widget that retrieves data on your metric of choice.
  • Depending on the visualization type, the retrieved data can also be grouped and/or filtered.
metrics
The model or finding field that the visualization should retrieve data for:
  • For string type fields, you can retrieve a Count.
  • For number type fields, you can retrieve any of the following: Count, Sum, Average, Min, Max
grouping
The model or finding fields that the visualization should group the data by.
  • Click Add to apply a grouping.
  • For bar charts, you are able to group by up to two fields. Click to swap the x-axis and y-axis for the groupings.
filtering
The filters that the visualization should apply to the retrieved data. You are able to set both AND or OR conditions.
  • Click Rule to add an independent rule.
  • Click Group to add a linked group of rules that all must be true to qualify.

Configure how the groupings are displayed:
  • Stacked — Groups will display stacked in one vertical column.
  • Grouped — Groups will display in side-by-side columns.
metrics
The model or finding field that the visualization should retrieve data for:

Prerequisites

Add custom analytics

To supplement the default reports with your own custom reports, first create a custom analytics page, then add your custom visualizations:

Create an analytics page

  1. In the left sidebar, click Analytics.

  2. Click Add Page.

  3. On the Add New Page module, enter in the:

    • page name
    • description
  4. Click Add New Page to create your custom analytics page.

Create a visualization

  1. On Analytics, click on the tab for your custom page you’d like to add a visualization to.

  2. Click to open the Add Visualization panel.

  3. On the Add Visualization panel, enter in your title.

  4. Select a visualization type:

    • Bar Chart
    • Pie Chart
    • Counter
  5. Select a dataset:

    • Findings2
    • Inventory Models3
  6. Select the visualization configuration options to apply to the dataset.4

  7. When you are done configuring your dataset, click Add Visualization to insert your custom widget onto the analytics page.

For example, to create an open findings visualization in stacked bar chart format, for average severity level, grouped by business unit (x-axis) and risk area (y-axis), you would set:

  • visualization typeBar Chart
  • datasetFindings
  • metricsSeverity Level, Average
  • groupingBusiness Unit Name, Risk Area Name
  • filteringFinding Status Name, is not, Closed
  • bar chart grouping styleStacked

Edit custom analytics

  1. On Analytics, click on the tab for your custom page you’d like to edit the visualization for.

  2. Hover over the visualization you’d like to modify until the icon appears, then click on it.

  3. Select Edit Visualization.

  4. When you are finished with your adjustments, click Save Visualization to apply your changes.

Remove custom analytics

Deletion of customized report setup is permanent.

Removing a custom analytics page or visualization cannot be undone.

You can either delete a entire custom analytics page, or remove a single custom visualization:

Delete an analytics page

  1. In the left sidebar, click Analytics.

  2. Click on the tab for your custom page you’d like to delete.

  3. Click in the top-right hand corner of the custom page.

  4. Select Delete Page.

  5. After you confirm the deletion, the page will be permanently removed.

Delete a visualization

  1. On Analytics, click on the tab for your custom page you’d like to delete a visualization for.

  2. Hover over the visualization you’d like to remove until the icon appears, then click on it.

  3. Select Remove Visualization.
